Captain Steve corrected the shift away from American-trained winners of this event when securing Jerry Bailey his third Dubai World Cup. After American-trained winners in 1996 and 1998, Godolphin secured the last two however Captain Steve returned the trophy to America in an international finish with America leading home Japan, then France and the UAE.
